Common cancers in Indian men

The risk and chances of cancer are increasing rapidly with the growth in population accounting as a result of poor lifestyle, unhealthy habits, and many more. Does cancer differ in aspect of gender? Actually, the answer lies here is somewhat no. Still, there lie some types of cancer which differ according to the male or female body.

Cancer is a disease caused due to abnormal divisions of cells rapidly which is a result of abnormal functioning or mechanism of the body. Studies show men have almost a 40 % chance of developing cancer during their lifetime, the death rates could be higher too. And yes definitely the ratio of men suffering from cancer is higher as compared to females.

Common cancers in Indian men

The Cancer mortality rate is higher in men as compared to females. Some of common cancer that is faced by Indian men’s are-

  1. Lung cancer

It is the most common type of cancer that Indian men suffer from, leading to the death of 42% of males at the age 30-70.

Cause-

The leading cause of lung cancer is the intake of tobacco, cigarettes at a high rate. It’s quite common to find 1 out of every 2 Indian men consuming any of this stuff. Smoking has become a part of fashion and pride, these things as a result give rise to harmful diseases like lung cancer. The other cause that lies behind is exposure to chemicals and other harmful particles in the air.

Measure-

Measures that can be taken to prevent lung cancer are avoid smoking or never start smoking. Avoid exposure to air with harmful carcinogenic substances.

  1. Colorectal cancer

Mostly observed in men above age 50 years, making its appearance in the colon or rectum. Easily treatable in early stages.

Cause-

There lie many causes which include obesity, high intake of red meat, smoking, consumption of alcohol, and physical inactivity. Another risk factor is a family record of colorectal cancer, bowel disease.

Measure-

On reaching the age of 50 males should go through screening and have a proper body checkup to know the risk in any case. Intake of healthy food i.e. following healthy diet pattern, avoid smoking, management of weight, and most important is physical fitness which includes proper and regular exercising.

  1. Oral cancer

The most common cancer observed in Indian men accounts for 30 % of cases in India. Occurs in the oral cavity where cells in the mouth, throat are grown out of control.

Cause-

Tobacco consumption is the main factor leading to oral cancer, named as gutka, zarda, cigarettes, bidi, chukka, etc. by Indian men. Observed in both young as well as old Indian men population. Other causes include a weak immune system, HPV infection (sexually transmitted virus), and consumption of alcohol.

Measure-

The only measure that could be taken is avoiding intake of carcinogenic substances like tobacco, quit smoking.

  1. Liver cancer

Cancer in the liver, if cancer spreads out to other tissues or parts then the survival rate is less. It is among the top 10 killing disease in India.

Causes-

Some major causes found are infection which includes hepatitis B and hepatitis C infection. Other causes include excessive consumption of alcohol, smoking.

Measure-

Protection from getting infected from hepatitis B and C infection. Avoid smoking, maintain a proper diet and health management, and exercise regularly.

  1. Prostate cancer

Develops in the prostate gland and gradually proceeds toward the urinary system affecting its functioning. Risk increases with growing age.

Causes-

The causes include poor eating and drinking habits, genetic changes, family record of cancer.

Measure-

Accepting and following a proper healthy lifestyle and proper screening.

Some other common cancers in Indian men may include pancreatic cancer, skin cancer, and mouth cancer.

Conclusion

Some of the preventive measures that could be taken to reduce the cancer risk may include-

  1. Proper screening with growing age so as to detect any sign of cancer.
  2. Eating and following a healthy diet.
  3. Avoid smoking.
  4. Regular exercise and physical activities.
  5. Quit unhealthy lifestyle like consumption of alcohol, tobacco.
  6. Regularity in doctor check-ups.
  7. Should know about family history in terms of cancer as a disease.

Cancer is a disease that can be either cured easily or is incurable. So proper care of health should be taken for long-living. A healthy body leads to a healthy lifestyle.
