The Global Sports Scholarship (GSS) program targets young sportspersons. It focuses on recognizing their achievements at the state, national and international levels, as well as encouraging their talent through proper mentorship. The scholarship is focused on students who are Indian residents, as well as parents of current students and the student fraternity of GIIS. The scholarship is eligible for all students from Grades 1 through 12. 

Candidates are allowed to apply for the scholarship across a wide range of individual and team disciplines, including table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton, chess, athletics, swimming, archery, gymnastics, boxing, weightlifting, shooting, cycling, diving, volleyball, basketball, soccer, netball, traditional games like Kabaddi and kho-kho, martial arts like judo and karate, wrestling, cricket, rugby, hockey, and squash. 

Here are the different categories available for the GIIS Sports Scholarship:

  • Category A scholarship. The Category A scholarship provides 100 percent off of total fees on educational expenses as well as 100 percent off on sports expenses to a maximum of INR 6 lacs per year for three consecutive years. Applicants must have been awarded at international sports events.
  • Category B scholarship. The Category B scholarship offers 100 percent off of academic tuition fees as well as 100 percent off on sports expenses to a maximum of INR 4 lacs per year for three consecutive years. Applicants must have been represented at international sports events.
  • Category C scholarship. The Category C scholarship provides 100 percent off of academic tuition fees as well as 100 percent off on sports expenses to a maximum of INR 2.25 lacs per year for three consecutive years. Applicants must have been awarded at national sports events.
  • Category D scholarship. The Category D scholarship offers 100 percent off of academic tuition fees as well as 100 percent off on sports expenses to a maximum of INR 1.25 lacs per year for three consecutive years. Applicants must have been represented at national sports events.
  • Category E scholarship. The Category E scholarship provides 90 percent off of academic tuition fees as well as 90 percent off of sports expenses to a maximum of INR 75,000 per year for three consecutive years. Applicants must have been awarded at state level sports events.
  • Category F scholarship. The Category F scholarship offers 90 percent off of academic tuition fees as well as 90 percent off of sports expenses to a maximum of INR 25,000 per year for three consecutive years. Applicants must have been represented at state level sports events.

Applications submitted without the proper supporting documents or incomplete documents are not processed. Applicants also need to have represented at international, national, or state forums or similar recognized or reputed competitions. Applicants must be Indian citizens and come from a moderate-income family with an annual household income of less than INR 5 Lacs.
