How to Keep Computer Secure From Online Threats?

Today, everyone uses the internet for his job or various other tasks. You can’t work without using the internet but you can keep your network secure. If you are a netizen and want to keep your device and data secured from all the dangerous online threats then you should adopt a few measures while accessing the internet.

Never use unsecured internet

Unsecured internet like public Wi-Fi is home to cybercriminals. If you don’t want to get into any hacking issues then you should use a secure connection for accessing the internet. But when you travel abroad or in a remote area, you can only access the internet using Wi-Fi. You should connect the device to password-protected Wi-Fi. At hotels, ask the staff for a reliable Wi-Fi connection that is password secured. Some hackers create fake hotspots to lurk the users. If you are using the internet in public places like libraries then you must install a VPN on your device. VPN will immediately mask your device and change the IP. VPN helps the user to secure the data from cybercriminals.

Use antivirus on your device

Antivirus provides security to the device from malicious programs. It not only removes viruses but also protects the device from other malware. For better security, you should install a premium antivirus on your device. Get the license for Webroot keycode activation and secure the data from various online threats. Antivirus also provides security from ransomware. It creates an extra layer of protection on your data so no one encrypts your data. Antivirus removes all the spyware, worms, adware, Trojan Horses, and other malware from your device. Users should run a quick scan on the system daily and a full system scan once a week.

Use a firewall

Today, most of the devices have inbuilt firewalls. Check the firewall settings on your device. If the firewall is disabled then enable it immediately. In case you don’t have an inbuilt firewall on the system then you should get a personal firewall for your device. A firewall is available as hardware as well as software. You can install any firewall according to the device requirement. Some security also provides firewalls as a tool. You can either use antivirus which provides a firewall or can install a firewall program separately. The firewall will check every incoming data packet on your network activity and protects the data from online threats.

Use strong passwords

Password is a front-line defence for security. Password protects the accounts from hackings. The user should set a strong password for the account. Some people use a phone number or DOB as a password. This type of password can be guessed by anyone. Even the person next door can guess these passwords. Always create a complex password for the account. If you use one password for every account and someone cracks it, he can open all the accounts. Use unique, strong alphanumeric passwords. Never jot down your password on any notebook or device. If you are unable to remember the passwords then use password manager. You can store all the passwords on a password manager and then access them using a master key.

 Keep a backup

Users should keep a backup of the important data. Copy all the data on the external hard disk. Saving the data on a hard disk prevents data doss. In case, ransomware encrypts your data, you don’t have to pay ransom for getting your data back. You can use the hard disk and get your data. But you should never use that hard disk on an unsecured device and store it safely. When you use the internet, never click on any pop-ups or ads. Always keep the system updated and access the internet very carefully. Use all possible measures and protect the system from all dangerous threats.
